My most recent, and current job, Wynmoor is a retirement center that features many entertainment destinations for its occupants. Including the theater where I work, where we show various movies and concerts.
My role here includes set up and tear down of sound equipment for concerts. Through this, I'm learning how to mix certain instruments such as a drum kit or a saxophone. There are various kinds of bands that come through the theater. From former Broadway actors on Motown: The Musical, to Copacabana-themed bands.
Recently we had a band named "The Long Run" which was inspired by The Eagles. Featuring a full drum kit, 3 keyboards, 4 electric guitars, 3 acoustic guitars, and 6 vocalists. This band was one of the most challenging shows I've had to manage yet. Their use of multiple electric guitars proved difficult to mix together but in the end, it sounded amazing.
Working at Wynmoor has allowed me to work with amazing equipment I wouldn't have otherwise gotten the chance to use. The primary board located in the booth is an Allen & Heath dLive S7000. With 128 channels, this board far exceeds anything I've used previously. I'm very appreciative of its customizable fader banks and quick, intuitive touch screens. It's enabled me to explore my abilities without being held back.
This theater is a great place for me to experiment while also getting on-the-job experience. Recently, I implemented software that allows me to remotely monitor the receivers and scan for any RF interference to avoid. "Shure Wireless Workbench" is an amazing tool that my boss allowed me to set up here and one that I will be deploying at my current school to help resolve some of our current wireless issues.
